So here are some snippets that we can use right now. They're rough, incomplete, possibly lame but they could be built on starting now.
- crops_2.mp3 a loop I made in Reason
- dark.aif heavy metal riff in the living room in Oakland
- dblexposure.wav Colin returns my acoustic guitar (which he'd battered) and I say 'no problem' then freak out for a moment; named because there are 2 audible unrelated tracks
- eminorfade.aif really this should be heavy metalish
- fingerpick.wav one of many John Fahey like fragments, with TV in Oakland
- fugue_part-old1.wav sounds like Unwound, sort of
- git.aif bright instrumental
- itnever.mp3 drum machine and git in my bedroom in SF; one of my favorite loop possibilities
- midbeat_bass.aif a loop from a song I was building in Reason
- notunwound.mp3 reminds me of Unwound again, also in 3/4; 2 days old
- opendminor.aif working out an instrumental song in Dm
- slidestuff.mp3 more John Fahey practice, but if we combined that style with some very different sounds it'd be cool
So that's just a broad range of ideas.
In Amscray, we recorded a couple of nice instrumentals, which were the things I was most proud of. One I'll have to dig up, called For Ballard. We used crazy layered guitars and an old shortwave tuner.
Also from the last Amscray session, I still have all the original drum tracks, which it always seemed to me that I could repurpose. There are lots of expensive mics in the drum room, with different characteristics. Maybe you and I could reuse them and just credit Eric with drum performances and engineering (for micing the room).
